Ingredients in Our Lemongrass Farms Essential Oil Bug Spray

We use only the best ingredients for our all-natural fly repellents and bug sprays—pure essential oils that we source from Berje, a French company that is known for supplying some of the finest perfumeries in the world. We make sure that there are no synthetic fragrances and no preservatives in our products. We are the first non-GMO project-verified bug spray because we are so conscious about where we get our ingredients. Our bottles wear the non-GMO project stamp proudly.

Lemongrass Farm has a proprietary process that emulsifies our essential oils into a water-based formula. Because of this distinct process, our essential oils bug spray has the highest level of user experience in the all-natural fly repellent category. Our formulas are also enhanced with plant-based moisturizers, some of which are often found in premium cosmetics and beauty products.

It’s challenging to create a water-based formula. While oil-based formulas can still be considered all-natural with ingredients like soybean oil, they leave a sticky residue on the skin, making it less enjoyable. So other natural insect repellents will rely on what we call “junk carrier oils”, which leave you feeling sticky, slimy, greasy, or smelling like a tiki torch!

Cedarwood

Cedarwood is a natural pesticide that is toxic to insects but completely safe for people and pets. It keeps away the pesty bugs but does not harm beneficial pollinators like bees and butterflies who are essential to our agriculture. This makes using cedarwood a more eco-friendly mosquito repellent.

When insects are exposed to cedarwood, it creates unbalanced pH levels within them. Insects depend on chemicals, also known as pheromones, to navigate and find resources so with unbalanced levels they become disoriented and lose bodily function which will repel and ultimately kill them.

Peppermint

Peppermint has been proven to be an excellent insect repellent, but what makes peppermint so effective? Chemical compounds such as terpene, alcohol, and menthol have been proven to repel inspects. Peppermint is perfectly harmless to humans but their chemical compounds act as a natural fumigant, or toxic gas, that affects insects through smell.

The insect’s smell receptors pick up on the compounds and feel the effects quickly, thus effectively repelling them. A study conducted showed that the compound menthol was as effective at repelling mosquitoes as DEETs, a harsh chemical ingredient used in most bug sprays. Peppermint is also an effective antimicrobial, a substance that kills microorganisms, which can stop viruses such as E. coli and S. aureus.

Lemongrass

Lemongrass’s strong citrus scent is commonly believed to interfere with an insect's ability to navigate or breed, which is why it’s such a good mosquito repellent. Although it might not just be due to the strong citrus scene as lemongrass is also filled with two chemical compounds: citral and geranyl acetate that work as natural pest repellents. Not only is lemongrass insect repellent extremely effective but it is also environmentally friendly and harmless to humans.

Geranium

Geranium contains two compounds that are known to be highly toxic to insects even at low levels: citronellol and geraniol compounds. In gardens, geraniums work as great companion plants that help keep common pests and beetles away from produce and other plants.

At Lemongrass Farm, we have created a natural bug spray using the finest ingredients. Our essential oil bug spray is not only effective, but it also smells great! Our formula is made with a blend of lemongrass, geranium, cedarwood, and peppermint oils, each with its unique properties to keep pesky bugs at bay. Our Lemongrass Farm essential oil bug spray is the perfect blend of natural ingredients that is safe for both you and the environment.
